Renovating isn’t just for houses. You can give your caravan a makeover too.

John and his wife Alison love travelling and exploring nature. They love their caravan – it’s taken them around Australia with their children – it’s part of the family.

To renovate or replace a caravan

With their children grown up with caravans of their own for family trips, John and Alison were ready to think about a caravan that was their own – a comfortable, private space. They needed less sleeping space and wanted a fresh look, but they were at a crossroads. Buy a new van or look at caravan repairs and renovation?

New life for a trusty caravan

John and Alison did their research on what they wanted from their van and costs of new versus caravan renovation. The renovation option came out on top – and not just because of the sentimental value of the caravan! Even planning on undertaking a major luxury renovation, repairs and renovation were cheaper than a new caravan, and you can't put a price on being able to plan your perfect space from scratch.

Renovation wish list

Once they’d made the decision to renovate, John and Alison realised their budget could deliver a luxury upgrade. Caravan Services worked with John and Alison to create a design which suited their renovation wish list:

  • replacing the combined shower and toilet with a new ensuite with an oversized shower, vanity and separate toilet
  • creating more storage and living space by removing the single bed and refitting space-saving cabinets
  • replace internal and external cladding and fittings
  • improved water tank system.

We created a plan for their renovation that would leave them with all the space and mod cons of a new van, without the new caravan price tag.

Luxury upgrade underway

We started the transformation with some demolition:

  • removing the external wall cladding and checker plate around the window and door
  • taking out the existing overhead cupboards
  • removing the single bed
  • getting rid of the old combined shower and toilet.

With the old shower gone, we manufactured a new wall to create space for the oversized shower and bathroom vanity.

We installed new space-saving cabinetry, including a slide out pantry, hanging robes and extra drawers. There was even room for the wine cooler they never thought they’d fit into the space!

The renovation wasn’t just about the looks and design of the living space. We also helped John address concerns with his water tanks by creating a system where he could fill the tanks individually.

Caravan Renovation: After

A new lease on life

After 120 hours in the workshop, the caravan’s makeover was complete and John and Alison were thrilled. The new ensuite and shower provides a relaxing retreat no matter where they are on their travels. With extra storage space creating more living area, and the touch of luxury with their very own wine cooler, it might be hard to get them off the road and out of their beloved caravan!
